The petition is close to 70,000 signatures and should be debated in parliament when it gets to 100,000.
Ultimately I think this can only be solved with an out of band security state indicator. Otherwise you can never quite believe what you see onscreen. Plenty of smartphones already have LEDs. Most keyboards don't use the scroll-lock led.
