Every socket based CPU I ever saw had a graphical mark or a little cut out on the top of the chip which lined up on the motherboard's socket.
Unless you went out of your way to ignore that marking and jammed it in the odds of bending pins are really really low / close to impossible.
I'd be more concerned about mounting an after market heat sink on the CPU. I don't know how much has changed in the last few years but the amount of force you need to use to lock them down makes you think you're going to snap your motherboard in half.
