This is a fascinating read. I never thought about umm and uh as a "necessary" part of human communication. It strikes me as sort of a, ummm... "buffering" signal to other humans.
One I've heard a few Canadians pronounce differently is either "California" or "Pennsylvania" with an extra syllable. So, where an American would say the "nia" syllable like "nya", a Canadian would say "Cal-i-for-knee-a"
I still wish I knew why this particular difference exists
>> Why is there a such a large disparity between California vs "rest of US"?
I just moved back to CA from the eastern midwest. I pay $1.50-$2 a gallon more for gas than I did in the East. At that increased price, it starts to make sense to consider EV+solar if you are commuting 50-100mi a day.
This plus the announcement of FB that they'll hire 10,000 to work on the "metaverse" is making my head spin. Does anyone else feel like they're living in the prequel to "Snow Crash"?
Maybe, just maybe, they want to get you addicted to that Zen moment. And then they want to make sure that you can only get that Zen moment on their app. Third step? $$$?
